New stores are coming to Monks Cross – and one will be open in time for Christmas.
The York shopping centre’s refit is well underway. As well as subdividing the larger units into smaller ones, the work will include updating the canopy and improving the children’s play area.
Superdrug is to open a 5,000 sq ft store by the end of November, and Mothercare is to follow by opening a shop in January.
It is a heartening turnaround for the centre, which was dealt a blow in March when it was revealed that five retailers were moving out.
Food and drink boost
The improvements will come into play as the new York Community Stadium complex comes into being next year.
And Monks Cross will also be improving its food and drink offer, with an area set aside for smaller restuarants.
That will boost the food and drink offering of the area, which already has several restaurants at nearby Vangarde as well as TGI Fridays coming to the stadium complex.
