The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for snow and ice covering York and North Yorkshire today.
It covers the whole of the county, as well as a wide area across the north and Midlands, and runs from 6pm today (Saturday, 2 December) to midday tomorrow (Sunday, 3 December).
The warning says: “Snow and ice this evening and into Sunday morning may lead to some disruption to transport and infrastructure.”
Temperatures dropped to -10°C in some parts of North Yorkshire in what was a bitterly cold Friday night.
York woke to the same icy fog that had made the live BBC2 City FA Cup game against Wigan extra memorable last night.
The UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office have issued amber cold health alerts in five regions including Yorkshire and the Humber until December 5, meaning “cold weather impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service for an extended period of time”.
