A new shop will open in the heart of York this spring.
The Gothelie Station is the latest addition to Goodramgate, housed in the Grade II listed building that was previously home to the charity shop Mind.
Described as an experience-led gift shop, it will offer a selection of souvenirs, accessories – as well as personalised memorabilia based on the story of Gothelie.
Who is Gothelie? She’s a fictional character that new concept is based on.
Owner Viki Papadopoulou created Gothelie’s story, which is set in the 1800s and inspired by York’s rich railway heritage.
She explained that customers will be transported into the Victorian era as soon as they enter the building.
“As you get in the shop, it will be like stepping into part of the story of Gothelie. I tried to connect the story as much as I could with w,” Viki told YorkMix.
Viki has carefully curated the stock to ensure it’s all relevant to the story, and every item for sale is sourced from UK suppliers.

Viki moved to York from Greece with her husband seven years ago and has worked in retail roles before embarking on this new venture.
She told YorkMix, “I have been working in various roles, but mainly what I loved was the visual merchandising roles. I like creating concepts, I like storytelling.”
Viki has always had a creative flair, and has enjoyed using her skills to decorate the space.
“It really fits my personality, I love the gothic aesthetic, and the Victorian era too. Even more so since I’ve moved here, I’m a lot more into history now,” she added.

While Viki wants to keep an element of mystery surrounding the story before the opening, a quote shared on their Facebook page reads:
“The raven still soars and the compass still spins.
“Where will it lead her next? A story begins.”
The Gothelie Station is expected to open at the end of April. For regular updates, head to their Facebook or Instagram pages.
