A new shop is planning to open in a prominent empty unit in York city centre.
Cello by Collectables is a gift shop specialising in candles and fragrances.
It would be the ninth shop in the Gateshead-based Collectables group to open its doors.
The business has taken the unit on the corner of Church Street and Swinegate.
It was home to popular gaming shop GAME for many years, but that closed last August.
The shop was then briefly home to a branch of Utopia womenswear, which also has a store on Spurriergate.
“We are a family owned company – grown in the heart of the North-East – with exceptional customer service at the forefront of our philosophy,” Collectables says on its website.
It has stores in the White Rose Centre in Leeds as well as two – including a Cello fragrance shop – in the Metro Centre, Gateshead.
A poster in the York shop window says the firm is now hiring. It has positions for key holders (20 hours a week), sales assistants (16 hours) and weekend staff (eight hours).

The good news comes a week after YorkMix reported another new retailer heading to York city centre – Sugarize on Coney Street, branded as “the world’s first digital sweet shop”.
