New online job search workshops at York Explore

Mon 15 Jul, 2013 @ 2.16 pm News Press Release

Issued by City of York Council

City of York Council is giving residents who are looking for work a helping hand, by running free workshops on online job searches.

The workshops run from 2.30 – 4.30pm every Tuesday at York Explore, and are for anyone who wants to gain the confidence and skills to improve their job prospects.

Councillor Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “The aim of these weekly workshops is to support residents who want to maximise their chances of find work, or a new job, by searching and applying for jobs online.

“In these tough times, jobs are more challenging to find, but if you know where to look and how to apply online, you’ll be in with a better chance. There’s a wealth of information and support out there on the internet and our expert library staff can help job seekers pinpoint the best places to find it.

“People attending the workshops will learn to find and use various job search websites, email CVs to employers and review online applications. They’ll also learn how to set up a Universal Jobmatch account and practise using it.”

Members of library staff can help individuals register to attend the sessions and, depending on their need, they can book on more than one. Experienced tutors and careers advisers will be on hand to support a maximum 15 learners per session.

The skills learned at the workshops can be used at home or on any of York’s libraries’ computers which are free to use.

Residents wanting additional help with CVs or extra training to boost their employability can contact Future Prospects, City of York Council’s free employment and learning advice service, at 20-24 Swinegate, tel 01904 634748, or email the team here.
