A youth club that used to run from the old Burton Stone Community Centre is back up and running in a brand-new venue.

Children and young people aged 11 to 18 can now drop in fortnightly to the new community hall at Marjorie Waite Court on Friday nights for a range of activities, following the efforts of Clifton ward’s Labour councillors, Margaret Wells and Danny Myers.

Cllr Myers said: “We’re really happy to get this new youth club operating and serving the young people of Clifton once again.

“Clifton Parish Church Youth Team worked with us previously in delivering these same kinds of activities right up until the old Burton Stone Community Centre got knocked down six years ago.

“They’re a great group of people who’re always passionate in the work they do with young people.”

Alongside the new Community Hall at Marjorie Waite Court, a brand new community café is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

It is operated by Choose2Youth, a local charity that supports children, young people and adults with disabilities and additional needs across York and North Yorkshire.

The youth club will run fortnightly, initially from 7pm on alternate Fridays, with a view to a move to weekly sessions in the autumn.

The next session is tomorrow (Friday, 10 June), and parents and carers can contact Cllr Myers or Cllr Wells for more information.

Cllr Wells said: “The hall is a great venue and will enable the youth club to host games of mini football and dodgeball, as well as Nintendo and Playstation gaming and other activities.  There will also be snacks available for those who attend.”
