Shake out your petticoats and powdered wigs – as York’s first Georgian Festival is coming this summer.
And the first one will feature a star guest, as Horrible Histories writer Terry Deary explores Georgian family life.
You can also learn to dance the minuet, solve the mystery of tricky Dick Turpin’s missing corpse in an immersive murder mystery night – and much more.
Created by York Mansion House, the four-day festival will take place from the 3 to 6 August 2023.
“We are a small team that have wanted to create a Georgian Festival for a while, and this is the year,” said Sarah White, marketing manager at York Mansion House.
“By 2025 we hope to have a week-long festival celebrating the rich Georgian history in York and the surrounding areas.”
York Mansion House will also be collaborating with other venues in the city, such as Fairfax House and The Bar Convent, as well as historical experts.
“In creating this festival we have been overwhelmed by the feedback and interest in taking part,” said Sarah.
This is a great opportunity to find out more about the glorious Georgians, from their fabulous fashions, to extravagant feasting and romantic country dancing.
