A brand new video and board games café is opening in York.
Up A Level, at 26 Market Street, is set to be a ‘prime place’ for gaming in York.
The new space will open on New Year’s Eve with a special launch event – with consoles, arcades, tabletop and other retro gaming available to play.
It will feature games including Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Nintendo games, and consoles such as PlayStation.
“We intend to be a hub for all things considered ‘geeky’ in Yorkshire,” said Dan Poppitt, marketing and communications manager for Up A Level.
“When I moved to York three years ago I found the only place that offered something similar to what we do was Geek Retreat, which unfortunately has closed down.
“We aim to be the prime place for board and tabletop games.”
The gaming space plans to host tournament events too.
The café will switch into a bar throughout the day – meaning that keen gamers of all ages can come along and experience everything Up A Level has to offer.
“We want to be a space for all ages, allowing new players of all games to have the space to learn comfortably with experienced game masters,” said Dan.
Up A Level are aiming to support charities that will resonate with staff and customers – like mental health charities Andy’s Man Club and York Mind, and Models for Heroes, which supports the use of model making hobbies for those currently or formerly in the Armed Forces or Emergency Services.
