Two new flood alerts have been issued for York today (Thursday).
It comes on another day of heavy rainfall, with more showers to come.
There are also a number of flood alerts – meaning ‘flooding is possible, be prepared’ – for North Yorkshire.
In York city centre, the water was starting to encroach on Queens Staith this morning, just a couple of days after it fell back.
As usual, only the riverside is affected – most of York is open for business as usual.
City of York Council says Rowntree Park and Rowntree Park car park remain closed.
The flood alerts for York are:
- Tidal River Ouse from Naburn Lock to Selby – Flooding is possible along riverside footpaths, from Naburn Lock and tidal foreshores, and agricultural land adjacent to the River Ouse in the Cawood, Kelfield, Wistow and Selby areas
- Upper River Ouse – Flooding is possible on riverside footpaths and low-lying land in York, and to the south as far as Naburn Lock, including Kings Staith, Queens Staith, and South Esplanade.
The Viking Recorder said the River Ouse had reached 2.34m at 8am, and it is forecast to peak at 2.66m at 12.30pm before falling back.
There are also these North Yorkshire flood alerts:
