It’s not yet October, but York is about to go Christmas Crazy.
That’s the name of a new shop preparing to open on Parliament Street.
It is found in what was once the Optical Express opticians, next to the Nationwide Building Society.
Already the window features not one but two large Santas, one of them emerging from a fireplace with a rather flamboyant golden toy sack.
The store is currently being stocked with all the usual festive trimmings, from cards to wrapping paper to decorations large and small.
Although not yet confirmed, it looks to be a sister shop to the Christmas Crazy Megastore in Hull. This has popped up in empty Hull shops for three months ahead of the festive season for the last three years.
This will not be the first time a short-lived Hull-based store has appeared on Parliament Street in York.
In August 2021, The Vintage Store started trading in the former New Look premises. It was the second branch opened by Hull business partners Aaron Thornhill and Kane Blythe, but closed in January when its lease came to an end.
