York is going wing-tastic as new chicken wing restaurant opens – and people are loving it.
Yo Yo Wings has opened in Polymath on Grape Lane and it’s already been going down a treat. YorkMix popped down there this week to find out more about the city’s newest place to get some delicious chicken wings.
And we’ve got a great half-price offer for you too! Find out more below…
Yo Yo Wings offers ten different flavours of chicken wings at six for £12, and 12 for £18. A lot of the flavours are Asian-influenced like the Panang-a-Lang, with chilli, lemongrass and coconut, the Gochu Gold with Gochujang, sesame seeds and pineapple, and the Shang-High with garlic, ginger and pickled cucumber.
More flavours include the Honey Monster, with (you guessed it) honey, lemon and soy, and the Parmegeddon with garlic butter and parmesan.
“I wanted to do wings because I thought that’s what York was missing,” said Yo Yo Wings founder and chef Kieran Duffy. Kieran has previously cheffed in York establishments like Forage, Roots, and Le Cochon Aveugle.

Kieran said that they use a ‘unique dredge’ for their chicken wings at Yo Yo.
“The way we make our wings is a very long process,” he explained to YorkMix. “We start off by brining them for about four hours, and that plumps up the wing and naturally seasons it.
“Then we buttermilk them, then coat them in our dredge before they get fried at low temperature to get that initial crisp, and then deep fried at a higher temperature before they’re served.”
Wings aren’t the only thing on the menu though, they also serve up fries and tater tots too – either topped with Bavette steak and tenderstem broccoli (£15), Sichuan salt and pepper (£8), or keep it simple with house seasoning (£5).

Yo Yo Wings are currently at Polymath for a planned six months “but we’re hoping to be here for quite a while.
“I love Polymath, so as soon as I heard that the kitchen was available I was straight on the phone to Adam (Johnson) trying to get in there. I’m happy to be here.”
Yo Yo Wings also has a special offer for ‘Wing Wednesday’ – where the wings are only 75p each. “We challenge anyone to eat more than 12!”
The restaurant does have plans to introduce food challenges “hopefully next month” for people to try. “We have a sauce called ‘Regret in the Morning’, which is ridiculously hot,” said Kieran. “We’re going to create some challenges and get people on the wall and giveaway branded t-shirts, and things like that.”
Kieran said that Yo Yo Wings has been “getting a lot of really good feedback” so far.
“Come down and try it and enjoy yourselves, and get involved in the atmosphere of Polymath because it’s an excellent place to be.”
YorkMix Vouchers are also currently offering £20 Spend for £10 at Yo Yo Wings – so you can enjoy all this delicious food for half the price.
