York singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin has launched Ignite Concerts – a new venture which will bring a series of captivating candlelit concerts to the city.
The events will feature string quartets, singers, pianists, and more and will pay homage to the timeless classics of iconic bands – starting with the music of The Beatles on Saturday 23 September at Q Church on Priory Street.
The one hour concert will feature the York string quartet Ebor Quartet, with Alistair himself joining the players to sing some Beatles classics.
Alistair has run and produced the popular Big Christmas Concert in York for the last five years.
“We’ve done candlelit shows in the past but this is a whole new level,” said Alistair.
“We have a thousand candles, an amazing string quartet and some fantastic acts lined up to perform in York in the next 12 months.
“We’re going to be lighting up some of York’s most stunning venues with candlelight.”
Future shows include a Candlelit Film Night at St Olaves Church, where the string quartet will take on the music of Hans Zimmer and John Williams – as well as other well known movie music, including a Harry Potter mashup.
There will also be special Christmas concerts, with more events to be announced which will feature the music of Queen, ABBA, and Coldplay.
“It’s about bringing a different musical experience to York and creating a memorable and unique atmosphere,” said Alistair.
Tickets start from £25.
