A new café is to open in the premises occupied for years by a well known York deli.
Shambles Korner is now being fitted out on Newgate, and will serve coffee, breakfast, lunch and dessert.
It has taken over the shop which used to be home to Henshelwoods Delicatessen.
Shambles Korner is a project by Zehan Chowdhury, well known as the general manager of Heavenly Desserts in York, and business partner Mohammed Rahman.
Its website suggests that the food will include breakfast trays, deli sandwiches made to order, and salad bowls.
Desserts like American waffles and pancakes are also on the menu, as well as hot and cold drinks.
The business is recruiting for full and part time positions, including a chef, kitchen and waiting staff. If you’re interested you can drop off your CV at the café or send it to [email protected].
Henshelwoods Deli opened in 1998. It was taken over by Stephen Dudley in September 2020, who launched a range of posh picnics the following spring.
However, the business went into liquidation last July. It was wound up owing £86,645.
Creditors included City of York Council (£3.8K), Barclays Bank (£23.6K) and Heather Ramskill (£9K).
