A new bistro and bakery is set to open in York – that aims to offer an ‘exciting new twist’ on brunch culture.
Black Wheat Club is the latest venture from Marta Obuchowska and Tomek Mlynarski, the couple behind the popular street-food stall Krep on Shambles Market.
The bistro-style eatery and micro-bakery is set to open at 52 Fossgate – in what was previously home to the vintage shop Bowler and Betty, which closed in 2023.

Krep is an iconic cornerstone of York’s street-food scene, known for serving up a delicious variety of sweet crepes and savoury galettes.
At the Black Wheat Club, visitors can expect ‘simple comfort food’.
During the day, there will be homey treats like freshly baked bread from the in-house micro bakery and speciality coffee. Then it will extend into an evening menu that includes natural wines and small plates – perfect for sharing with friends or on a date night.
The upcoming eatery is described to be all about ‘authentic cooking, celebration of local, seasonal ingredients and returning to the roots’, and will be inspired by the flavours that shaped Marta and Tomek’s childhood.
Black Wheat Club will join a thriving food-and-drink scene on Fossgate – which includes fantastic independent York eateries like Spring Espresso, Lè Specialty, The Blue Barbakan, The Hairy Fig, Ambiente Tapas, and The Fossgate Social.
