Two neighbouring shops on a key York shopping street have closed.
Both Space NK and Accessorize have shut up shop and cleared out.
That leaves two empty stores side by side on Davygate, always considered one of the best shopping streets in the city.
Space NK closed its doors for the last time on Saturday (24 September). It sold luxury beauty products.
A note on its website directed shoppers to its online store, and to shops in Harrogate, Beverley and Leeds.
Accessorize, the chain well known for bags, jewellery, shoes and more, has been cleared out, with cardboard boxes waiting for collection.
It has a note in the window which reads: “The store is closed. Monsoon Accessorize on Coney Street is open as usual.
Accessorize on Davygate was first threatened with closure in spring 2020 – when Monsoon Accessorize went into administration and closed its Monks Cross branch.
However it stayed trading. And the chain posted a profit last year after being bought out of administration by founder Peter Simon.
Davygate has had a fair turnover of businesses recently. Both Debenhams, the Halifax Bank and Laura Ashley closed.
But Mappin & Webb jewellers are to open in the old Debenhams store, while Sainsbury’s opened a new outlet on the street too.
