A new original musical score is set to delight York audiences at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre this month.
The musical is based on the fairy tale of the Little Mermaid written by the master story teller Hans Christian Anderson.
The production of The Little Mermaid is the latest spectacular by theatre company We Are Theatre.
Directors Donna Riley and Charlotte Gray penned the script which they have kept true to the original fairy tale, complete with Anderson’s twists and turns that will be unfamiliar with audiences of the Disney adaptation.
The pair once again partnered with composer Dennis Westgate to create such memorable songs as ‘Island of Dreams’ and the wonderful ‘Bubbles Song’.
The music was arranged by local midwife Jeni Fraser and will be played on the night by a live band comprising local students headed by talented musical director Jess Douglas.
Cast of all ages
In keeping with We Are Theatre’s inclusive policy the cast ranges in age from six years old to adults.
As a result the show offers a vibrant array of talent from the young Little Mermaid, Olivia Robinson to the old Sea King, played by professional York story teller extraordinaire Adrian Spendlow.
The choreography team of Abbie Brownlee and Steph Tooby have added to the visual treats producing dances which are sure to entertain.
The show is suitable for all ages. Group bookings contact [email protected] or call 07521 364107.
