News, Things to do

Live events are returning to an iconic York venue this month.

After a 25-year hiatus, the Bonding Warehouse will once again host live performances – and kicking off the new era is a special acoustic night on Friday (25 April).

The music event has been curated by by local bands Rough Mix and This Happy Breed, in collaboration with the venue’s new tenants, Patch.

A fixture of York’s cultural scene during the 1980s and 90s, the Bonding Warehouse was once renowned for its vibrant live music, theatre, and comedy. Now transformed into a co-working and creative space with residential apartments above, the building has found new life thanks to start-up Patch, which took over the space in January this year.

Tony Myers, drummer for Rough Mix, and fellow musician Al Goodwin – a founding member of both Rough Mix and This Happy Breed – decided to organise a one-off acoustic music night featuring musicians who previously performed at the Bonding.

“This is not just a Rough Mix or This Happy Breed gig,” said Myers. “It’s an open invitation to anyone who played back in the day to join us. We want to offer York residents a chance to return to the Bonding and relive memories of when it was a thriving live venue, restaurant, and bar.”

Back at the Bonding – Live Acoustic Music Night will take place from 6:30pm at the Bonding Warehouse. Tickets are £4.50 and are available here.

Comedy will also return to the Bonding Warehouse, with the inaugural Funny Fridays event on Friday 9 May. Previously, the venue has played host to household names from Jo Brand to Lee Evans. Now a new era of comedians will be crossing the threshold!

The evening will be hosted by Katie Lingo, a York-based writer and regular on the York and Leeds comedy circuit, who will be performing at the inaugural Rik Mayall Comedy Festival later this year.

Joining Katie are five stand-out performers: Haseeb Malik, Saeth Wheeler, Kenny Watt, Tuiya Tembo, and John Pease.

“As a former comedy promoter, I love to see how much joy these nights can bring,” said site director and operations North lead Thom Feeney. “It’s great to have so much talent right here in York. That’s what Patch is all about and we look forward to promoting it in this beautiful space.”

Tickets for Funny Fridays are available for £6.50 via Eventbrite.
