A man suspected of murder was arrested in York today (Friday).
There was a large police presence in the city centre this morning.
Armed officers were seen at the Malmaison Hotel on Rougier Street, and several police vehicles were in Duncombe Place.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Members of the public may have seen a large police presence in the centre of York this morning.
“We were carrying out an arrest of a suspect on behalf of South Yorkshire Police after they had travelled into our area.
“The 23-year-old man was arrested at around 9.40am on 17 January at a hotel on Rougier Street.
“He is now in police custody and will be transferred to South Yorkshire Police.”
The South Yorkshire force said the man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
It followed the death of a man in the Conisbrough area of Doncaster.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.29pm last night (Thursday) following a report of a 64-year-old man found deceased at an address in Maple Grove.
“Emergency services attended the property, with the man sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.”
