Police investigating the murder of a man in Scarborough have made an arrest.
Officers said tonight (Monday) that they had arrested a 34-year-old man on on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.
It follows the death of a man in his 50s after he was attacked in Eastborough at 9pm on Saturday.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing, and we are particularly appealing for a crucial witness who was at the scene to come forward.”
The victim has been named online as Peter Houghton from Hull.
Today would have been his 60th birthday, and his family released a video of them toasting Mr Houghton.
One friend commented: “Absolutely terrible to go out to celebrate your birthday and not come to your family. Absolutely tragic. So sorry to all the family on the tragic loss of Peter Houghton rest in eternal peace so so sad.”
Another said: “Shocked to hear the terrible news of the passing of Peter Houghton, a true gent who always managed to put a smile on everyone’s face.”
