It has a food hygiene rating of zero – and a fine of several thousand pounds.
Multiple food safety failures saw the owners of Naz Spice, on Saxon Place, York, taken to court.
City of York Council environmental health officers inspected the takeaway on 30 August 2018, and gave it a food hygiene rating of zero because it required urgent improvement.
Owner Jabedur Rahman failed to properly register the food business after a change in ownership in August 2017. Mr Rahman also failed to provide allergenic information.
Seven offences
Appearing at York Magistrates on 29 January, Naz Spice Heworth Ltd pleaded guilty to seven offences including
- failing to effectively clean and disinfect equipment
- failing to keep premises clean and in good repair
- failing to provide a washbasin with materials to clean and dry hands
- and failing to implement a food safety management system.
Naz Spice Heworth Ltd was fined £4,000 and a court surcharge of £120, in addition to costs of £1,043.
Mr Rahman also pleaded guilty to six of the offences and was fined £1,200 with a court surcharge of £120 and £1,043 additional costs.
