Snow has been falling across North Yorkshire causing problems for motorists today (Tuesday).
York has a light dusting, but there has been enough snow in other parts of the county to see North Yorkshire Police deal with ‘multiple collisions and incidents’.
The weather has closed the A169 Whitby to Pickering road. “Please avoid the area and only travel if absolutely necessary!” tweeted Ryedale police.
Officers also described both the A61 between Ripon and Harrogate, and the A19 between Crathorne and Northallerton, as treacherous, urging motorists to drive carefully and allow extra time for their journeys.
In York, the icy conditions have closed the City Walls.
After today, the outlook is drier but the cold snap is to continue into the New Year.
Temperatures in York will fall to -1ºC overnight. Tomorrow’s temperatures are in the range 2ºC to -3ºC and on the night of New Year’s Eve, the low will be -1ºC.
