A gallery that has been bringing contemporary artworks to York for 17 years is moving on.
According To McGee is to leave Tower Street, which has been its home since 2005.
They are now planning their next chapter, with a possible relocation on the cards.
Run by Greg and Ails McGee, the gallery has a five star rating on TripAdvisor and has brought some exciting artists to York.
In their post explaining the move, they said: “After 17 years of holding court opposite Clifford’s Tower, we are ready to move premises.
“More details soon, but we hope you’re as excited as we are. By the time winter 2022 comes around, all will be revealed.”

They opened According To McGee with a solo show from painter Richard Barnes. And their final exhibition on Tower Street with be of artwork by both Richard and his daughter Chantal.
Their announcement was greeted with positivity from residents and customers. “You have made such an amazing presence by the Clifford’s Tower and made such a stamp in the York / Yorkshire Art Community – should all be so proud of yourselves,” one said.
A three-year lease of the 520 sq ft shop at 8 Tower Street is now being marketed by Blacks, with rent in the region of £16K per year.
