Motorists caught racing on North Yorkshire roads hit by police operation
Police have handed out tickets to drivers caught racing on roads near Selby.
We reported last week that officers were aware of motorists gathering to race at Selby Fork, South Milford.
Last night (Sunday), the Roads Policing Unit and local Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a joint operation in the area.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The operation was conducted after recent incidents of motorists racing their vehicles in an anti-social manner.
“A number of motorists were issued with Traffic Offence Reports, a long with Section 59 warnings. (Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 refers to vehicles being used in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance).
“Road safety remains a priority and by undertaking this operation we hope it will directly address the issue, whilst sending out a clear message.”
A motorist is given a Traffic Offence Report “because the issuing officer believes there is sufficient evidence to prosecute you for an offence; however you may benefit from attending a driver training course as an alternative to a Fixed Penalty Notice or a court appearance,” according to police.
They asked anyone with information about anti-social driving or other motoring offences to call them on 101.
