More than 30 homes could be built in a York village if plans get the go ahead.
Up to 32 homes are proposed for a field in Elvington.
Although the site is ‘considered to lie within the general extend of the Green Belt’, it will not be part of the Green Belt once the draft Local Plan has been adopted, says a planning statement.
“Instead, the site will become part of the defined settlement of Elvington.”
An application for outline planning permission for the homes has been submitted on behalf of Mrs D Sunderland and Mrs S Wilson.
The site is a three acre parcel of land north of Church Lane. Of the 32 homes, ten would be affordable.
“Access is proposed from Beckside where an existing road ends at the boundary to the site,” the application says.
“Parking provisions within the site will be provided in accordance with local parking guidelines, which includes cycle parking to serve each dwelling.”

A transport statement says the proposed development will have “minimal” traffic impact.
The planning documents say a section of hedge along the boundary with Beckside would be removed to allow for access into the site. “Otherwise, it is envisaged that all other hedges and trees will be retained as part of the proposed landscaping scheme.”
“The council cannot identify sufficient land supply to meet housing need over the next five years and this site is an important element of the land required to deliver necessary development,” the planning application says.
“The development is considered to be sustainable in terms of the economic, social, and environmental benefits to be secured, and it is also in a sustainable location.”
