More student accommodation is in the pipeline for York.
A planning application has been submitted to turn Rougier House on Rougier Street into 32 student apartments.
Seven would be on the ground floor, with eight on the first and second floors.
A mezzanine floor would be created in the roof to create a new third floor which houses a further nine studio flats.
Currently there is a car park behind the building. This would be replaced by covered cycle parking for 36 bikes.
Planning documents state: “The change in nature of city centre uses is evolving and the provision of student accommodation in this sustainable location will add to the vibrancy and levels of economic activity in this part of the city centre.”
Built in the 1990s, Rougier House was on the market for £1.9m earlier this year.
It previously formed part of the Roman Quarter development plan, before that fell into administration.
The building is next door to Northern House – which is set to be demolished and replaced with a seven-storey Dakota Hotel under plans just submitted.
And it comes days after YorkMix revealed that student accommodation with around 1,450 bedrooms was planned for the Foss Bank site after Sainsbury’s closes.
