Milby misery continues for York iPhone users.

Many readers and listeners have contacted us since we first reported that iPhones had replaced York on its apps with the mysterious location of Milby.

Despite reports elsewhere, the problem is still plaguing people.

It appears that every iPhone app that uses location services – including Apple Maps, Weather, and even things like Pokemon Go and Tinder – is changing ‘York’ to ‘Milby’.

The issue is also affecting the Maps app on Mac computers. Milby is a hamlet near Boroughbridge.

A woman driver told us that after her car broke down, she alerted the breakdown team at Green Flag via their app.

“It correctly flashed Fulford Road, York, and then changed to something like Leadham Rd Milby. I had to ring direct to be rescued instead,” she told YorkMix.

“I checked my location again this morning at Starbucks and I was still in Milby. At home I am also still in Milby and not York.”

York resident Andrew Thompson said: “It all started on Tuesday morning when I noticed on Apple Maps that York College and the nearby Tescos were still in Dringhouses but that part of York had been transported overnight to Milby.

“Then later when I bought food in Rougier Street my bank notification popped up and said I shopped in Milby too.

“If it’s a glitch with Apple Maps, it shows how many  applications and services rely on that data which makes everything confusing all round, especially for visitors to York.

“Not sure what people in Milby are seeing. If the village is showing on the maps as York, they could have a tourist boom on their hands.”

James told us: “I have just made a payment at the Sun Inn in Acomb and it’s come up Milby still! A full day after your report!”

Stephen said the issue was on his phone as well: “Never heard of Milby. It’s hard enough to persuade people that Earswick isn’t New Earswick without being moved to Boroughbridge.”

A spokesperson for Apple UK told us that they were aware of the issue and were “working to correct this in Maps”.

They promised to get back to us when the work is complete.
