Vandals have covered ramps at Norton and Malton Skatepark with paint.
Ryan Swain who led the campaign to get it refurbished says it’s disappointing.
Black paint was poured on the ramp surfaces which cost hundreds of pounds each to resurface as part of the programme to bring the facility and the famous halfpipe back to life.
The park is covered by CCTV and the hunt is on to find those responsible.
Ryan told YorkMix: “It’s spoiling it for the genuine users, the skateboarders, the families using the wider riverside areas for picnics etc. It’s such a shame.
“I think it’s about us all coming together as a community and along with the council and the police making sure this kind of behaviour is just not tolerated.
“I don’t want to generalise and say it’s young people responsible for doing the damage as it could be older people too.
“There is CCTV down there, I can assure you it does work, it’s high quality kit and there are no excuses for not picking up who is responsible for doing it.”
