Now we’re in February, the winter is nearly behind us. And to add a further spring to your step is the news that the McDonalds Monopoly event is coming back.
Students in York especially prepare themselves for a period of free side fries, cookies, drinks and McFlurries to go along with their meals.
Here’s all you need to know. And don’t forget that the McDonalds branch on Blake Street offers a click and collect service via your mobile phone or tablet, thanks to the sterling efforts of franchisee John Atherton. Read more about McDonalds ‘McDelivery’ service here.
When does McDonalds Monopoly 2020 start?
Although there has not yet been an official announcement, McDonalds Monopoly 2020 is expected to launch in March 2020.
In a similar fashion to last year’s event, expect to be able to store all of your McDonalds Monopoly properties online on the McDonald’s Monopoly website.
What can you win in 2020?
Like in previous years, you will be able to win a variety of different prizes. There are three ways in which to win at McDonalds Monopoly:
1. Instant win prizes
Free food galore – who can say no to free food? Peel of a sticker that states ‘free apple pie’ (or whatever else), take it to the till before the expiry date and enjoy eating your free food – simple.
There are tens of million of these prizes available so your chances of winning here are high.
Instant win prizes in McDonalds monopoly 2020 include: hash browns, ice-cream, fries, cheeseburgers, apple pies, plus much more. Players can also win non-food prizes such as; shopping vouchers, NOW TV subscriptions and even a brand-new car – usually a Mini-Cooper but this could change to a different car in 2020.
2. Online prizes
Every Monopoly sticker will include an online code. Enter-in this code online at the McDonalds Monopoly website for your chance to be included into an online cash prize draw.
Prizes between £5 and £100 are given away every minute for the duration of the promotion.
Top tip – enter your code at an unusual time such as 2am. Fewer people will be playing at this time so your chances of winning will rise. #smart
3. Full property set prizes
This is where the lucrative McDonalds Monopoly prizes come to the forefront. Prizes here include cars, holidays, games consoles and £100,000 in cash.
If you manage to make a full set of properties (that’s all the properties of one particular colour) then you will win one of the very biggest prizes.
Rarest McDonalds Monopoly properties 2020
In order to stop millions of people from winning full property sets in McDonalds Monopoly, there will always be one property in each set which is extremely rare. If you get your hands on any of these properties, then you are very close to winning some great prizes.

The best ways to increase your chances of winning
The best way to win McDonalds Monopoly 2020 is to, you guessed it, eat as much McDonalds as possible in order to get your hands-on McDonalds Monopoly stickers.
There are a few easy ways to do this which we point out below.
Alternatively, you can immerse yourself in all things McDonalds: play the York edition of the Monopoly board game with your family and friends and bask in your ever increasing Monopoly knowledge or play Monopoly Live for your chance to win real cash and bring your Monopoly zen to the next level!
How many Monopoly stickers does each McDonalds food item have?
The table below showcases last years list of each McDonalds menu item that offered Monopoly stickers if purchased. Many can be bought together. For example, if you buy a three-piece chicken select meal you will receive three stickers for the meal, three for your drink (included in the meal) and two stickers for your fries (also included in the meal). That is a total of eight stickers!
Any drink: 3 stickers
Wrap: 3
Big Tasty Burger: 3
Crème Egg or Caramel McFlurry: 2
Soft drink: 3
Chicken salad: 3
Chicken & Bacon Salad: 3
Chicken Big Tasty: 3
Chicken Legend (all varieties): 3
Chicken Selects (3 or 5 piece): 3
Fries (medium or large): 2
Fruit bag (medium or large if part of a meal): 3
Iced frappe or iced fruit smoothie (if part of meal): 3
Mozzarella Dippers: 2
Vegetable Bag (medium or large if part of a meal): 3
Signature Collection (any item): 3
However, don’t be surprised if McDonalds decide to offer more stickers to healthier options in 2020.
In 2019, McDonalds changed things up by taking a sticker away from fries (prior to 2019, fries offered three stickers) and instead gave healthier options such as side salads and fruit bags three stickers.
What not to buy?
Unfortunately, the crowd favourites, Nuggets and Big Macs offer diners precisely zero McDonalds Monopoly stickers. Avoid them. Now.
Where in York can you play?
Aside from the McDonalds on Blake Street, you can also play McDonalds Monopoly 2020 at the franchise outlets at Clifton Moor and at Monks Cross.
But don’t forget, the McDonalds Monopoly promotion is strictly for fun! Don’t expect to win the big prizes as your chances are very slim indeed. But there are so many small prizes up for grabs, you are bound to win something even if it’s just a free salad.
