Has your company, club or organisation got what it takes to show the competition a clean pair of heels? Then it could be time to join a charity challenge where you swap running a business for the business of running.
It has the rather long name of the Northern Gas Networks Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay. Part of the sold-out Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon on October 12, the challenge was launched outside York Minster on Tuesday (July 8).
Last year’s winners
Open category: Hassra (2hrs 46mins 20secs)
Mixed category: Addleshaw Goddard (2hrs 58mins 37secs)
Female category: Fast Feet On The Run (3hrs 30mins 53secs)
Companies, sports clubs, groups of friends and other organisations can enter a team.
The marathon distance is split into six legs, each between three and six miles long, making the event accessible to runners of all abilities.
“It’s a really special event which raises a great deal of money for a variety of worthwhile causes including the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and I’m pleased that we can offer our support,” said David Gill of Northern Gas Networks.
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Hiscox, Minster FM and Charterhouse Recruitment are among those to have already entered a team.
The corporate challenge was a popular feature of last year’s inaugural Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon.
Competitors included gold-winning paralympian Hannah Cockroft, BBC Look North presenter Keeley Donovan and actor Chris Chittell – Eric Pollard in Emmerdale.
“With all general places in the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon already sold out, the corporate relay is a great way to be involved on the day,” said event lead Lisa Ashcroft.
