Man tried to lure girl, nine, into his van near primary school

Police have urged parents to talk to their children about ‘stranger danger’ after a man tried to lure a girl into his van.

At about 8.15pm last night (Saturday), the man, said to be about 60-years-old approached a nine-year-old girl who was in the park opposite the primary school in Barlby, near Selby.

He asked if she would like to get in his van and have some sweets. He left when the girl said she would ring the police.

The van was white and the male is described as

  • white
  • bald
  • around 60 years old
  • wearing black bottoms
  • and a grey T-shirt.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Please reiterate to your child the dangers of talking to strangers and the actions they should take should they experience a similar situation.”
