Police are investigating a serious attack on a man in Northallerton early today (Sunday).
The incident happened on Elder Road at around 2am.
The victim, who is aged in his 30s, was repeatedly punched to the head in what officers describe as an unprovoked attack.
He was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital by ambulance to receive treatment for head and facial injuries.
Detective Sergeant Tom Barker said: “This is a particularly concerning incident which has left the victim with significant injuries.”
Police issued a CCTV appeal to trace a man they wanted to question along with two witnesses.
That appeal has now been cancelled. A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Over the weekend we issued an appeal to help identify a man we wanted to speak to about a serious assault in Northallerton.
“The man has now come forward and the appeal has been removed.”
