Firefighters stepped in after a man on a mobility scooter got stuck on the Selby canal towpath.
They were called in to the towpath near Brayton Lane at 4.47am this morning (Wednesday).
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from Selby responded to reports of a male stuck on his mobility scooter who had entered the canal tow path via an unlocked gate, and then couldn’t get through the next gate, but also could not turn around.
“The crew released the male using a gate key.”
