It was a very painful way to end a night out.

A man impaled his knee on some railings in York and had to be cut free by firefighters.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, at Kings Staith, at 10.52pm on Saturday night (September 30).

Fire crews from York and Acomb used cutting gear to release the man. Ambulance crews then took him to York Hospital for treatment.

Police and a crew at York Rescue Boat were also on the scene.
