Police have issued a sad update on the incident on High Ousegate in York today (Wednesday).
We reported earlier that a man had been found collapsed on the street at about 7.50am.
This evening, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are sad to confirm that the man who was found collapsed in High Ousegate, York this morning has died.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been informed.
“A file has been prepared and passed to the coroner.”
High Ousegate was cordoned off for about half an hour after the man was found.
It was reopened to traffic, but the footpath between Coppergate and High Petergate, and the garden next to All Saints Church, remained taped off for much of the day.
A scenes of crime officer was taking photographs in the garden at lunchtime.
