A man has died after being found in Whitby harbour this morning (Thursday).
Police were called in by the coastguard at 8.50am with the report of the recovery of a man who had been found in the water near the marina.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called in, alongside paramedics. But sadly they could not save the man.
Investigations into what happened are underway, and a cordon was put in place.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police and ambulance services attended the scene, but sadly despite emergency services efforts, the man has died.”
At 12.10pm they issued another update saying: “The identity of the man who was found in the water at Whitby this morning has now been established.
“Officers are also in a position to confirm that his death is being treated as non-suspicious.”
