A man has been arrested for alleged dangerous driving along streets thronged with Christmas shoppers in York.
The incident began when a police community support officer spotted a car on Parliament Street at 11.32am today (Tuesday).
The driver was spoken to about a possible insurance offence.

However, he made-off in the vehicle in an area that was busy with pedestrians.
The car stopped near Boots on Spurriergate three minutes later. The driver, believed to be from West Yorkshire, was arrested by Firearms Support Unit officers shortly afterwards.
He has been taken into custody for questioning along with a woman in the car who was also arrested.
One witness told YorkMix: “A car was driving at speed in the city centre – the driver was grabbed by the police as he did a runner.”
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to have brought the incident to a quick and safe conclusion.
We thank the public for their support and understanding while we were dealing with this potentially dangerous situation.”
When asked how the car had got through the anti-terrorism vehicle barriers, the spokesperson told YorkMix: “The car was parked there before the barriers were in place.”
