A man was arrested on the steps of York Minster following a violent attack in the city centre.
It happened on Goodramgate at around 5.40pm on Monday.
The arrested man, who’s 39 and from Armley, Leeds, is alleged to have attacked a man and a woman.
It is not believed they required treatment.
The man has been charged with two counts of assault by beating, possession of crack cocaine and possession of the synthetic cannabinoid known as spice.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “He was arrested by the Minster Police outside York Minster at around 5.45pm before being taken into custody by North Yorkshire Police.
“He was held overnight for questioning before being charged and bailed to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 6 February.”
