A man has been arrested after hiding on a York roof for more than five hours following a break-in.
The alarm was activated at Jack Wolfskin on Lendal at about 5.30am yesterday (Tuesday).
Police arrived to find a ground floor window had been broken.
Believing that the burglar might still be on the premises, and could have made their way to the roof, officers called the fire brigade to assist.
Crews from Acomb and Huntington went to St Helen’s Square. Using the aerial ladders the roof was examined.
Eventually a man was spotted trying to leave the premises, and was arrested.
A Crime Scene Investigation team from York police was at the premises on Tuesday.
The Jack Wolfskin store manager said that a bag with some items taken from the store was dropped and later recovered.
She said the store would now be opening next Tuesday (13 April), the day after non-essential shops are allowed to reopen.
