An ‘exciting transformation’ is underway at a well-known pub in a village near York.
The Duke of York in Gate Helmsley did not reopen after a Covid lockdown and has been shut for some time.
But its owners, Star Pubs, say they are investing in the place with a view to finding new tenants and reopening it once again.
Details on the Star Pubs website say: “Inside the pub, an exciting transformation is underway with a full overhaul and redecoration of the trade area, bar, and toilets.
“The layout will be revamped to include multiple zoned areas, such as snugs, a conservatory, private dining areas, and the main bar area with feature fireplaces.
“Externally, the pub will undergo a significant transformation as well. A beer patio will be set up at the front, while a spacious terrace with a grassed garden at the rear will cater to walk-in customers and families, providing them with a lovely outdoor space to enjoy.

“The pub’s exterior will be completely redecorated, with a modern and inviting colour scheme designed to catch the attention of passing traffic and beckon them to stop by.”
Meanwhile, improvements to the kitchen will help new managers to cater to the dining area with 103 covers.
Star Pubs are looking for new people to take over the pub, which dates back to the mid-19th century and is Grade II listed.

“The right operator for the Duke of York will have extensive experience in a similar hospitality business,” the website says.
“They will have a clear vision for their food & drinks menu and marketing strategy and can create a memorable experience for their customers.
“If this sounds like the incredible pub opportunity you’ve been waiting for, apply today and tell us what you can bring to this pub’s next chapter.”
