York is going to be a giant film set next week.

Filming is to take place across six days, with a raft of street closures to facilitate the production.

Scenes will be shot near the Minster, next to Clifford’s Tower, on Shambles and by the river among other locations.

It will begin at 7.30am on Tuesday (23 April) and continue until midnight the following Monday, 29 April.

And it will create a fair bit of disruption as roads will be closed throughout most of next week.

The drama is Patience by production company Eagle Eye Drama.

According to Deadline Hollywood, it will star Breaking Bad‘s Laura Fraser and Ella Maisy Purvis as a detective duo in the six-part drama.

Deadline says: “Fraser will play Detective Bea Metcalf, who forms an unlikely duo with Purvis’ young autistic police archivist, Patience Evans. Their investigations unfold against the backdrop of the historic city of York.”

It is the biggest event of its kind since scenes from hit Netflix show The Crown were filmed in York Minster.

The cathedral was closed for a week as stars including Imelda Staunton as the Queen and Dominic West as Prince Charles filmed the marriage of Charles to Camilla.

Last month, another Netflix team transformed the Caramba Steakhouse at Clifton Moor into a New York trattoria as the filmed the sequel to hit movie Bank Of Dave.

Below is the schedule and road closures for the latest filming project in York, starting on Tuesday.

City of York Council said: “It is envisaged that pedestrians and vehicles will only be stopped for the duration of individual takes only and will be allowed to proceed between takes whenever possible.”

On Petergate and Stonegate, for example, the streets are closed to traffic during filming hours anyway. The producers say they will ask pedestrians to wait between takes but “we will be extremely careful not to get in the way of businesses and their customers”.
