A moped rider has died after an accident on a main York road.
At about 5.30am on Saturday (September 8), police and ambulance services attended a single-vehicle collision on the A59 Boroughbridge Road near to the junction with Plantation Drive, in York.
The collision involved a single rider on a silver-coloured Piaggio moped who was travelling outbound towards the ring road.
The accident was discovered by a fire crew. North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service reported:

Whilst returning from a previous incident, Acomb crews discovered a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist.
Crew administered first aid until arrival of paramedics.

Sadly, despite efforts by a local passing fire crew, the rider, a 48-year-old man from the York area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for five hours while officers from the Roads Policing Group and Forensic Collision Investigation Unit conducted examinations at the scene.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, seen the vehicle prior to the collision, or have dashcam footage of the incident, to contact the North Yorkshire Police Major Collision Investigation Team on 101, quoting the incident reference number 12180168057.
