Part of Holgate Road in York had to be closed tonight (Thursday) while workers dealt with a dead 40ft Sycamore tree that was in a dangerous condition.
It was a risk to traffic and pedestrians on the busy route into the city centre.
Traffic was diverted via Dalton Terrace as the tree was cut down by Castle Tree Surgeons in Heslington.
James Castle told YorkMix Radio that there was fracture in the main stem so it had to be removed
When the top part was taken off it fell to the ground and smashed into pieces, showing just how rotten it had become.
It was on the junction with Lowther Terrace by the block of flats. The work has now been done.
