The main bridge in Tadcaster is closed due to flooding this morning (Monday).
It is closed on Bridge Street both ways between Kirkgate and Mill Lane.
The Environment Agency says river levels are expected to peak in Tadcaster tomorrow morning.
Kirsty Poskitt from Tadcaster Community Action Group says it’s heartbreaking to see the water in properties again.
However she says that the bridge, which collapsed in 2015, isn’t at risk as the moment.
There are three flood warnings covering the Tadcaster area:
- River Wharfe at Kirkby Wharfe – Property flooding is expected around Kirkby Wharfe
- River Wharfe at Tadcaster – Property flooding in the areas around Commercial Street and Bridge Street is expected
- River Wharfe at Ulleskelf and Ryther – Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Wharfe around Ulleskelf and Ryther, with low lying land expected to be most affected.
Firefighters were called out to Tadcaster to help with flooding incidents early this morning.
They helped residents move furniture and evacuate, and businesses on Commercial Street salvage stock from premises threatened by floodwater.
