Train buffs are in for a treat with the launch of a brand-new high-speed model train set, coming at the end of this year.
The iconic British model railway manufacturer, Hornby, has introduced updates to the flagship set which now features the modern LNER Azuma train.
The Azuma is the latest LNER engine, a diesel-electric hybrid that covers the East Coast Mainline, built using Japanese bullet train technology.
The changes mark a major adjustment to their entry level high-speed train set, which for many years has showcased the beloved InterCity 125 train.
The InnerCity 125, also known as the HST, is being replaced on the UK rail network by newer trains like the Azuma.
Therefore, the Azuma addition to Hornby’s iconic set is only fitting, and reflects the changing landscape of modern train travel.
The Hornby LNER Azuma Train Set will feature a ready-to-run Azuma train in its LNER livery, alongside a track and a controller.
Hornby has been selling a model LNER Azuma since 2022, but this is the first time it will be available as part of a train set.
Managing director of LNER, David Horne, said: “We’re thrilled that Hornby are including the LNER Azuma in their entry level train set.
“The Azuma is a true icon of modern British rail travel, and we know this train set will be a hit with model railways newcomers.
“It’s an exciting time to be part of the evolution of rail travel, both in real life and in miniature form.”
The LNER Azuma high Speed Train Set will be available to purchase in November 2025, with an RRP of £179.99.
