** Note: Services are back to normal after the earlier disruption, reported below **
There is serious disruption to the East Coast Main Line near York this afternoon (Sunday, 21 May).
Train company LNER is urging passengers not to travel today as many services are cancelled along the whole of the route.
It is due to a broken rail at Colton Junction, between York and Doncaster. No trains can travel along that stretch of the line until it is fixed.
Disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.
LNER said: “Customers are advised to NOT TRAVEL TODAY and to obtain a refund for their ticket via their original point of purchase.
“Customers with LNER tickets dated today, Sunday 21 May are able to defer travel to tomorrow, Monday 22 May.”
For more information and updates, check the LNER travel alerts page.
This disruption is not connected to the crash between a train and a car at a level crossing near Pickering. That is on another line entirely.
