A ‘living legend’ returns to York this week – aiming to smash a remarkable record.
Star racehorse Stradivarius will be top billing at York Racecourse’s Sky Bet Ebor Festival on Friday (19 August).
He will be bidding to win the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup, worth £250,000.
Remarkably, Stradivarius has won six from six races at York and if successful on Friday he could become the most winning racehorse in modern history at the racecourse.
To celebrate his amazing run, racegoers are being encouraged to dress in ‘Strad Style’.
The racecourse is inviting people to wear black and yellow, reflecting the racing silks of owner Bjorn Nielsen. And you might add violin accessories or even go chestnut with white socks!
And a special ‘Strad Style’ category will be introduced in the style stakes on the day at the York Gin Ebor Fashion Lawn.

A framed photo montage of Stradivarius at York Racecourse – as well as limited edition bottle of ‘Stradivarius’ York Gin – will be presented to the racegoer whose outfit is judged as best capturing the spirit of the superstar in their outfit.
York Racecourse ambassador Megan Nicholls said: “We really hope racegoers attending this Friday will celebrate the living legend – Stradivarius – by dressing in his famous black and yellow colours or just celebrating him, we want to see as many as possible wearing ‘Strad Style at York Racecourse this Friday.”
