Wednesday update: York’s coronavirus case rate drops below 30

Another 13 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 24 March).

That takes the cumulative total to 12,147 – giving an overall infection rate of 5,767.3 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 66 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up three (4.8%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 29.4 new cases per 100,000 people (62 cases in the week to 20 March). That’s down from 42.3 in the previous seven days (89 cases in the week to 13 March).

The English national average is 55.7, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 108.6.

There has been one more coronavirus-related death in the York council area today, and two in the last seven days (no change).

In North Yorkshire, there were 33 new coronavirus cases today, taking the cumulative total to 29,008  – an infection rate of 4,693.4 cases per 100K.

There are 1,848 cases in Ryedale (no change), 4,746 in Selby (up 11), 7,549 in Harrogate (up seven), 4,149 in Hambleton (up four), 5,417 in Scarborough (up four), 2,579 in Richmondshire (up four) and 2,720 in Craven (up three).

There were no more coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today.

That leaves the total at 583 across the trust (York and Scarborough Hospitals).
