Wednesday update: York coronavirus rate goes above 30 for first time since March

A further 24 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 9 June).

That takes the cumulative total to 12,518 – giving an overall infection rate of 5,943.5 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 90 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up 36 (66.7%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 30.9 new cases per 100,000 people (65 cases in the week to 5 June). That’s up from 24.7 in the previous seven days (52 cases in the week to 29 May).

The last time it went above 30 was on 31 March, 2021.

The English national average is 47.7, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 50.6.

There have been no coronavirus deaths in the City of York Council area in the last seven days.

In North Yorkshire, there were 51 new coronavirus cases today, taking the cumulative total to 30,548 – an infection rate of 4,942.6 cases per 100K.

There are 1,899 cases in Ryedale (up one), 5,301 in Selby (up seven), 7,862 in Harrogate (up 28), 4,279 in Hambleton (up four), 5,655 in Scarborough (up two), 2,670 in Richmondshire (up three) and 2,882 in Craven (up six).

There were no coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today.

That leaves the total at 592 across the trust (York and Scarborough Hospitals). The last death was reported on 3 June.
