Wednesday update: Another sharp increase in coronavirus cases in York
A further 243 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 6 January).
It takes the cumulative total to 8,323 – giving an overall infection rate of 3,951.7 cases per 100,000 people.
In the last seven days there have been 1,284 positive Covid-19 tests in York – an increase of 590 (85%) week on week.
The rolling seven-day rate in York is 530.3 new cases per 100,000 people (1,117 cases in the week to 2 January). That’s up from 265.9 in the previous seven days (560 cases in the week to 26 December).

In North Yorkshire, there were 454 new coronavirus cases today, taking the cumulative total to 19,807 – an infection rate of 3,204.7 cases per 100K.
There are 1,173 cases in Ryedale (up 17), 3,095 in Selby (up 70), 5,040 in Harrogate (up 157), 2,674 in Hambleton (up 83), 4,288 in Scarborough (up 46), 1,610 in Richmondshire (up 42) and 1,888 in Craven (up 39).
There were three more coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today.
That takes the total to 388 across the trust (York and Scarborough Hospitals).
