Six miles of tailbacks on motorway after crash at York junction

A crash has caused long tailbacks on the A1M this evening.

Two lanes were closed on the southbound carriageway following the collision, after junction 44, the turn-off for the A64 to York and Tadcaster.

Both lanes reopened at about 4.20pm.

National Highways Yorkshire said: “There is still approximately six miles of congestion on approach, causing residual delays of 60 minutes above usual journey times.

It estimates that the traffic won’t return to normal till between 6pm and 6.15pm.
